Thilo Zimmermann studied economics at the University of Cologne (Universität zu Köln) and in Genoa. He was a member of the European student organization AEGEE. From 2009 to 2011 he was working in the economic department of the German Embassy in Rome. There he mainly dealt with Italy’s situation in the financial and euro crisis. Furthermore, he was a member of the crisis reaction squad that co-ordinated the German help after the earthquake in L’Aquila in 2009.
In 2012 he started his PhD at the Scuola Superiore Sant’Anna in Pisa (Italy) about European integration theories, European public goods and European republicanism. From 2013-14 he was a pre-doctoral fellow in the Transatlantic Program of the Weatherhead Center for International Affairs at Harvard University, Cambridge, MA. Since October 2014 he is conducting his research in Paris at the Écoles Normales Supériores (Rue d’Ulm and Cachan).
