Mattthew C. Klein the Economics Commentator at Barron’s. He is co-author, with Michael Pettis, of Trade Wars Are Class Wars: How Rising Inequality Distorts the Global Economy and Threatens International Peace (2020), which explores how today’s trade conflicts are caused by governments promoting the interests of elites at the expense of workers. He has previously written for the Financial Times, Bloomberg View, and the Economist. Before entering journalism, he was a research assistant at the Council on Foreign Relations and an investment associate at Bridgewater. He studied history at Yale, focusing on the links between domestic politics and international relations. Originally from Chicago, he lives in San Francisco.
