Lyn Ossome is an Associate Professor at University of the Witwatersrand. Previously, she was Senior Research Fellow at the Makerere Institute of Social Research, where she taught politics and political economy. Her specializations are in the fields of feminist political economy and feminist political theory, with particular research interests in land and agrarian studies, gendered labour, and the political economy of gendered violence.
She is the author most recently of Gender, Ethnicity and Violence in Kenya’s Transitions to Democracy: States of Violence (2018) and co-editor of the forthcoming volume Labour Questions in the Global South (2020).
She has held visiting positions at the National Chiao Tung University, Taiwan. Wits University, and Yale University. She serves on several boards among them the Council for the Development of Social Science Research in Africa (CODESRIA) and the Strategic Initiative for Women in the Horn of Africa (SIHA Network). She is co-editor of the Journal of Contemporary African Studies, and associate editor of Agrarian South: Journal of Political Economy, and organizes on several fronts among feminist and agrarian movements.
