Nancy Cartwright is a Professor of Philosophy at the London School of Economics and at the University of California at San Diego. During the first half of her career at Stanford she specialized in philosophy of physics; since moving to LSE, in the philosophy of the economic and social sciences. She has worked on modeling, measurement, realism and causal inference, and currently on evidence and policy. She is a fellow of the British Academy and of the American Philosophical Society, a Member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences and Leopoldina (the German Academy of Sciences), and a recipient of a MacArthur Fellowship.
