Jörg Asmussen

Member of Executive Board
European Central Bank

Jörg Asmussen has been a Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank since January 2012. He is responsible for the Directorate General International and European Relations and the Directorate General Legal Services and represents the ECB in European and international forums such as the Euro Working Group, the Economic and Financial Committee and the G20 Deputies Meetings.

Before joining the ECB, Mr Asmussen served for 15 years in various positions at the German Federal Ministry of Finance. He was inter alia Head of the Minister’s office from 1999 to 2002, Director General for financial market policy from 2003 to 2008, and State Secretary responsible for the Directorates General dealing with fiscal policy and macroeconomic affairs, financial market policy and European policy from 2008 to 2011. As State Secretary, he was Germany’s G20 Deputy, served as the Chancellor’s G20 Sherpa in 2011 and held a number of mandates. He was a Member of the Financial Stability Board, Alternate Governor at the World Bank, Alternate Governor at the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, Chairman of the General Council of Germany’s Federal Financial Supervisory Authority, Member of the Supervisory Board of Deutsche Telekom AG and Member of the Supervisory Board of the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit.

Jörg Asmussen obtained a Diploma degree in Economics at the University of Bonn and holds an MBA from Bocconi University, Milan.
