Atif Mian holds the Joe Shoong Chair in International Busines at University of California, Berkeley. He did his bachelors degree in Mathematics and Ph.D. in Economics both from MIT. Prior to joining Berkeley he taught at the University of Chicago Booth School of business. His research studies links between financial markets and the macro economy. He has recently worked on understanding the origins of the global financial crisis, the political economy of government intervention in financial markets, and the link between asset prices, household debt, and the real economy. Professor Mian's work has appeared in top Economics and Finance journals, including American Economic Review, Quarterly Journal of Economics, Journal of Finance, Review of Financial Studies and Journal of Financial Economics. He lives in Oakland with his wife and two daughters.
