Mariana Mazzucato: How the State Drives Innovation

Who drives innovation? Institute for New Economic Thinking grantee Mariana Mazzucato makes the case that the state plays an integral role.

Speaking in 2012, Mazzucato explains her DEMOS (2011) pamphlet "The Entrepreneurial State," which has since been expanded into a full book that was released by Anthem Press in June, 2013. Mazzucato explains why policies in Europe have failed to create the next Silicon Valley and how the state can be a key player in supporting innovation. Check back next week for a follow-up interview with Mazzucato on her new book!

Excellent! It is one of the few worthwhile INET interviews. The important lesson is that Keynesian macroeconomics is simply too coarse to be useful. Most government spending is wasteful, but some can be productive and even vital for the economy.

I´m 100% agree with Dr Mazzucato. Here in Argentina, we have not a target to work on it. So, we waste the people money.
