Alberto Botta is lecturer in economic policy at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, Reggio Calabria, Italy. He also teaches international economics at the University of Pavia and microeconomics at the Master Program in Cooperation and Development, Institute of Advanced Studies of Pavia. He is member of the scientific board of the Master program in Cooperation and Development, Institute of Advanced Studies of Pavia. Alberto Botta is Professor of economic integration and international cooperation at the Master Program in Cooperation and Development in the Middle East, University of Bethlehem, Palestinian territories. His main research interests concern post-Keynesian economics, development economics, financial instability and international monetary economics. On these topics, he has published some articles on international peer-review journals such as “Structural Change and Economic Dynamics”, “Metroeconomica”, “Review of Political Economy”, “Journal of post-Keynesian Economics”, “Review of Keynesian Economics”, and “PSL Quarterly Review”.

In this paper, we deal with the complex relationship connecting inequality to innovation, and the ways through which public investment, in particular public participation to R&D initiatives, may affect it. We first stress that multiple different equilibria may exist in the inequality-innovation space.
