The International Economic Assocation has sent out a call for submissions for its 17th World Congress. The event will take take place on June 6-10, 2014, and is supported by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and the Institute for New Economic Thinking. The text of the call for submissions is quoted below. You can also download it as a PDF at the bottom of the page.
As President of the International Economic Association (IEA) and Program Chair of the 17th World Congress of the IEA, we invite you to submit a paper to the contributed sessions of this congress, which will take place on the Dead Sea in Jordan from Friday, June 6, to Tuesday, June 10, 2014. The event is jointly organized with The Columbia University Middle East Research Center (CUMERC) and in partnership with the Institute for New Economic Thinking and The Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI).
The IEA triennial congress will cover all aspects of economics, with a program reflecting the very best work in the profession. Program highlights include numerous keynote addresses as well as a series of plenary and policy sessions, with a number of leading economists already committed to attending. Among those participating will be leading academics and policymakers, including all of the World Bank chief economists from the last 17 years, as well as several Nobel laureates. The event will feature the latest and most engaging research in all fields in economics in the many contributed sessions. This is why we warmly encourage each of you to submit a paper for the congress and to be part of IEA Jordan 2014!
Each person may submit and present only one paper. However, each person is allowed to be the co-author of several papers submitted to the congress. The deadline for submissions is midnight (PST) on October 31. Please visit http://www.iea-world.org for instructions on how to submit papers.
There will be funding available for young researchers and researchers from developing countries, so please take a look at the IEA website for further details.
The 17th World Congress will be held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Convention Center in Jordan. The center is located on the eastern shores of the Dead Sea at the heart of the Jordan Rift Valley. The Dead Sea is the lowest body of water on earth, the lowest point on earth, and the world's richest source of natural salts. One of the most spectacular natural and spiritual landscapes in the world; the Jordanian east coast of the Dead Sea has evolved into a major hub of both religious and health and wellness tourism. The Dead Sea is 45 minutes away from Amman, the capital city of Jordan, and is close to historical tourist attractions such as Petra (one of the Seven Wonders of the World), the Roman ruins in the city of Jerash, and the Baptism Site, to name a few. We suggest staying for an extra few days after the Congress to unwind in this beautiful and unique location.
Full logistical details of IEA Jordan 2014 are available at the congress website.
We look forward to meeting everyone in Jordan!
With our best wishes,
Joseph E. Stiglitz (Columbia University), President of the International Economic Association
Timothy Besley (LSE), Program Chair, 17th World Congress
